This tale introduces young readers to the magnificent Sonoran Desert toad (also known as the Colorado River toad). In the rich tradition of the Yaqui (Yoeme) people, this revered amphibian is known as Bobok, the symbolic bringer of the rain.
For the Yaqui, whose spiritual and communal life is deeply rooted in the rhythms of the desert, Bobokβs powerful, rumbling croak is not simply a sound of summer; it is a sacred and vital signal of renewal. The toad's miraculous emergence from underground marks the onset of the life-giving monsoon rains. Consequently, the toad's song and presence become a central element of the traditional ceremonies that celebrate the arrival of water and the rebirth of the land.
Blending this rich cultural storytelling with natural science, Bobok Brings the Rain! celebrates the magical rhythm of the desert and the universal lesson that even the smallest voice can initiate the cycle of life and embody a powerful "can-do" attitude.

Introducing my new children's book. Stay tuned for the November 15th launch date!
It's hard to believe this journey started with an idea and a block of linoleum. Every single illustration in this book was hand-carved, a process that has been a true labor of love. Seeing the characters and story come to life through this unique art form has been the most rewarding experience.
Here is a quick peek into the process of the art behind "Bobok Brings the Rain!" I want readers of all ages to appreciate the art form of linoleum printing through an entertaining story. So much of children's books are digitally illustrated---nothing wrong with that...but there's room for traditional art forms too! I can't wait for you all to meet Bobok and hop along on his adventure. It means so much to me to finally share this story and art form. Stay tuned for updates on the official release date!
